LOCATED IN THE LANDMARK DISTRICT OF TRIBECA IN NEW YORK CITY, THIS 2000 SQUARE FEET LOFT INTRODUCES SEVERAL DESIGN CHALLENGES:
-
- MAINTAINING THE HISTORIC “AROMA”, FABRIC AND FEEL OF A PLACE ORIGINALLY DESIGNED AS A WAREHOUSE – OPEN AND ROUGH BRICK AND MORTAR LARGE OPEN SPACE, WHILE PROVIDING HIGH-END CONTEMPORARY AMENITIES.
-
- A GIVEN LONG, UN-EVEN FOOTPRINT WITH VARIED PROPORTIONS.
- A SPACE WHERE NATURAL LIGHT IS GRADUALLY WEAKENING AS ONE GETS FURTHER
AWAY FROM THE FRONT WINDOWS. THE ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTION PROVIDED IS ONE LONGITUDINAL WALL, WHICH DEFINES THE FEW ENCLOSED FUNCTIONS BEHIND IT, LEAVING THE LOFT OPEN FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER. ALL OTHER SPACES AND AREAS ARE NOT ARE SUGGESTED, RATHER THAN DEFINED, BY SITE-SPECIFIC ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS. USE OF LIGHT COLOR PALETTE THROUGH OUT THE OPEN SPACE MAGNIFIES THE NATURAL LIGHT COMING FROM THE FRONT WINDOWS THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE LOFT.
