PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE ’94

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE – A SPACE FOR A MINUTE YARKON RIVER – TEL AVIV – JUNE 1994

A PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE IS AN INTEGRATION OF STRUCTURE, SPACE AND MOVEMENT.

THE PROJECT INTENT IS TO EXPLORE THE MEANING OF A BRIDGE AS CONNECTOR, THROUGH THE SEARCH OF THE RELATION BETWEEN STRUCTURE AND SPACE. A BRIDGE DESIGN, BEING ESSENTIALLY “A CHALLENGE IN PHYSICS” OR A MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM, IS NATURALLY DOMINATED BY THE FIELD OF STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING, THEREFORE ISSUES SUCH AS SPACE, MOVEMENT AND PERSPECTIVE ARE NOT BEING EXPLORED, EXPRESS, OR EVEN TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.

THE PROPOSED BRIDGE IS A CLOSE COLLABORATION BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING. IT IS LOOKING TO MAXIMIZE THE ADVENTURE OF “CROSSING”, A SPACE THAT IS EXPERIENCED THROUGH MOVEMENT AND DEFINED BY STRUCTURE. THE DESIGN COMBINES TWO DIFFERENT STRUCTURAL METHODS – EACH MAKING A DIFFERENT KIND OF SPACE, MAKING THE EXPERIENCE TACTILE, UNDERSTANDABLE AND APPROACHABLE.
