DOORMAN’S DESK FOR DALTON SCHOOL’S LOBBY, NEW YORK CITY – 2000
A VERY SOUGHT AFTER SCHOOL, DALTON HAD BEEN AN INSTITUTION IN NYC AS OLD AS ANYONE CAN REMEMBER. CONSERVATIVE AND TRADITIONAL ON MOST FRONTS, THE LOBBY IN RENOVATION FELT IN NEED OF POINTS OF CONTEMPORARY DESIGN.
TWO VERSION WERE PROPOSED – ONE WITH A SEAT, THE OTHER WITHOUT. “WAY OUT THERE” WAS THE VERDICT BY THE SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES. “IT OUGHT TO BE IN MOMA, NOT HERE!”
RENOVATION OF DALTON’S SCHOOL THEATER AND LOBBY IS BY DOWNTOWN GROUP ARCHITECTS, PETER WILLCOX – PARTNER IN CHARGE.
