GLACIER MOUNTAIN HUT ’04

PALISADIS GLACIER MOUNTAIN HUT – MAY 2004

REACTING DIRECTLY TO THE PREMISE OF ITS EXISTENCE, THE PROPOSED MOUNTAIN HUT CELEBRATES THE SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS. HIKERS AND BACK-PACKERS, LOOKING FOR THE HUT AT THE END OF A DAY IN THE OUTDOORS, GET A GLIMPSE OF A SHINNING BEACON FROM A FAR, SIGNALING THE LOCATION OF AN OASIS: A LARGE VIEWING DECK, MADE OF STEEL STRIPS COATED IN METALIC RED, FLOATING OVER A ONE STORY BUILDING, ITS PRESENCE GLOWING MILES AWAY, LIKE THE COLORS OF OUTDOOR CLOTHING OR AN EMERGENCY LANTERN.

APPROACHING THE HUT, A MEANDERING RAMP – LAST CLIMB OF THE DAY – TAKE THEM UP TO THE DECK FOR A LONG LOOK AT THE MOUNTAINS THEY CAME TO CONQUER.

BEING THE “FOCUS OF SATISFACTION”, IT ALSO SERVES AS THE SOCIAL FOCUS OF THE LODGE, PROVIDING A BAR, DINING TABLES, OUTDOOR CINEMA AND VOLUPTOUES VIEWING CHAIRS.
